On the day we embarked on our photo-taking adventure, the typical river mouth bar was non-existent.
Uncovering Quicksand in Unlikely Places
Despite the morphological whims of Talofofo's river mouth, quicksand can still be found by the discerning eye. On that specific visit, the mysterious substance was located underwater on the south side of the river mouth and along the precarious edge of the north bank. Appearing to be around knee deep, the quicksand we found underlined just how localized it is.

Testing the limits of the quicksand is an exercise in juxtaposition. On one side, a step can lead to a sudden, knee-deep plunge, as it did for Megaera. Mere inches away, on firmer ground, you find stability. The experience is so striking and localized that it's almost as if you're hesitating on the brink between two worlds.
